Technical details of the ship

The overall ambience of the ship

The ship has a wonderful feeling. She was completely refitted in 2001 and is spacious, nicely decorated and is very easy to get around.  The main rooms are nicely furnished with comfortable seating arrangements encouraging interaction among the passengers. She is an older ship that has the "solid" feeling that some of the new ships lack. Much of the deck space is covered in a blue matting that is comfortable to walk on and also stays cool on hot sunny days. The sky deck with its wide open deck space, swimming pool and a wonderful pool bar is a great gathering place.  This ship is large enough to have a cruise director, hotel manager along with the naturalists who divide the passengers into smaller groups for on shore adventures.
The cabins
Cabins - Sea Deck: The least expensive cabins are the superior cabins. These are small with not a lot of room but are manageable. These are located on the Sea Deck.
Cabins - Moon Deck:  These are really simply superior cabins on the top deck.  This is really not an advantage in my opinion as there is a very steep and narrow flight of stairs to reach the Moon Deck. Anyone with any walking difficulty should not consider these cabins. If you choose to be high on the ship, then these may suite you. Be aware that four of these cabins have views blocked by lifeboats.
Junior Suites: A big jump up in accommodations. These cabins feature wonderful picture windows, are more spacious and have a great feeling. Mostly located on Earth Deck. I do recommend these over the superior cabins there is a big difference.
Legend Suites: If your budget will allow and you plan on being on board for one week I would recommend the Legend Suite.  This cabin has a wonderful spacious feeling with a nice sitting area in which to relax. Once again the big picture windows offer a nice view and great light into the cabin.
The Bathrooms:  Basically the same in all suites they are small and serviceable but not spacious.  The larger suites have a slightly larger bathroom but they are still small.
The dining room and food
The ship focuses on quality food, not of a gourmet quality but with fresh ingredients and simple presentation.  One of the freelance naturalist guides told me that this ship has the best food of any ship in the Galapagos. We never had a bad meal. The choices for dinner are presented at lunch and your order is placed. Dinner includes an appetizer, choice of two soups, choice of two main courses and choice of two deserts.  Lunch and breakfast are buffet style and the food is excellent. Do not expect gourmet meals but do expect quality meals, simple presentation and good taste. Room service is available on the Legend until 11:00 pm.
The daily routine

A wake-up call comes around 7:00 am in the morning.  Breakfast is served at 7:30 am and departure for the mornings activities is usually around 8:30 am.  Normally you are on land for 2 to 3 hours and return to the ship to freshen up.  At 12:30 pm, lunch is served.  In most cases, the ship sails to a new destination for the afternoon.  At around 3:30 pm, you depart the ship again to experience a new afternoon adventure returning to the ship at around 5:30 to 6:00 pm.  After cleaning up, the naturalists explain the landings and adventures for the next day. Dinner is served at 7:30 pm. Evenings are pretty quiet on board. The activity in the main lounge really depends on the passengers on board.  The days are tiring so often people retire quite early.

The Naturalists
On the Legend there were enough naturalists onboard to split the guests into smaller groups. Naturalists are certified experts and the Legend hires top quality guides. All are very informative and accompanied their group during the time on land.
Additional charges

All food was included along with tea and coffee. There is a charge for soft drinks $1.50, beer $3.50 and wine and mixed drinks of $5.  Snorkel equipment rental is $10 for the cruise and wet suit rental is $10 for the cruise.  All the land excursions are of course included in the price of the cruise.
